| About Shaman Braille |
| Shaman Braille is truly made of Amy
Valencia-Furman and her desire to create Braille. A third
generation transcriber, she has a great appreciation for the services
she provides and takes great pride in her work. She received her
literary certification at the age of 21 doing her transcript on a
Perkins, specializes in tactile graphics (recently winning the Graphics
Challenge at CTEVH 2009), and is currently working on her Nemeth
certification. |
| Amy does this work from home so that she can
spend time with her family as much as possible. This does not slow
down her progress however as she has innovative techniques that get the
job done very quickly as well. She has tried very hard to stay on
the cutting edge of technology, learning as much as she can about the
devices available to the blind community, and the respective file types
they accept. She also uses numerous software programs to enable
her the largest ability of transcription possible. |
| Need multiple copies of something? No
problem there either, as Amy has her own Thermoform machine and can
reproduce even her most complicated graphics easily. She has
computer embossing capabilities as well, so running off a second copy of
literary work is just as easy! |
| Need that Braille really quickly? Have something that seems
near impossible to transcribe? Although Shaman Braille may charge
a little extra for the Rush work, it is almost always possible to get it
done in time no matter how short the deadline. Amy also has a
great imagination for getting the impossible put into dots for you.
Slate & Stylus, Embossing wheels, cork dots, felt strips, chart tape,
she uses some things you'd never even think of to make it happen! |
| Amy will be happy to talk to anyone about
quotes and pricing as well as file/material delivery techniques needed,
just give her a call! She's even willing to help you be the best
transcriber you can be. If you have any questions, need to bounce
an idea off of her, want to know how she would do it, or just want to
chat with her, feel free to call or e-mail her. |
